Position Title: Italian Language Teacher
Department: Modern and Classical Languages   
Reports To: Vice President for Academic Affairs/Classical Languages Department Chair
Beginning/end date of position: August 18, 2025                              

 

Notre Dame High School is seeking an enthusiastic teaching professional with excellent subject knowledge to join our Modern and Classical Language faculty. We seek motivated individuals with a keen interest in encouraging and inspiring students to love and become proficient in the acquisition of a second language.

POSITION SUMMARY: To be a successful teacher in this position, the candidate must have a strong background in the teaching of Italian as a second language, have an understanding of how students learn, be able to create effective assessments and provide actionable feedback. Candidates must also possess a professional growth mindset, always focusing on improving practice in the classroom. The candidate must also be able to work collectively on school and departmental  improvement goals and be willing to provide coverage time during the school day of various non-teaching duties.

Departmental Responsibilities:

  • Teach 5 periods in a rotating 7 period schedule 
  • Teach all levels of Italian including IB and ECE Italian
  • Design lessons for each course taught that are engaging, student-centered, and focused on developing transferable skills such as writing, critical thinking, and presenting to peers
  • Understands the World Readiness Standards For World Languages. Will also incorporate the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines which describe what our students will be able to do in real-world situations
  • Design effective formative and summative assessments that measure student learning and that provide students with actionable feedback leading to growth
  • Work with students on developing resilience  and effective organizational skills as they acquire a second language
  • Provide a representative number of assessments and grades so that students and families have an understanding of their performance 
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, and complying with departmental and administrative protocols
  • Keep abreast of developments in both the content taught as well as new teaching methodologies
  • Collaborate with members of the department on improvement goals, curriculum mapping and evaluation thereof, and on all duties assigned by department chair
  • Perform other duties such as class coverages and attend department and faculty meetings

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Working hours are 7:50 am to 3:00 pm
  • Be a teacher advisor for approximately 15 students 
  • Contact parents of under-performing students or where there is concern for their learning
  • Effectively use technology to enhance student learning and be aware of the new challenges posed by its use
  • Collaborate with the Academic Center and be aware of students with 504s and IEPs and make sure their accommodations are met.
  • Perform other duties such as class coverages and attend department and faculty meetings
  • Attend school events such as graduation, parent conferences, and open houses organized by the office of admission
  • Teach an experiential learning course (NDXL)  lasting one week
  • Be a good representative of the school in and outside of the building 
  • Be involved in the extracurricular and co-curricular lives of your students.
  • Be mindful of posting on social media as employees of the school are its best representatives

Requirements

Attributes:

  • Must have at least an undergraduate college degree in the field  from an accredited institution. Advanced degree is preferable but not required
  • 1-5 years of teaching experience is preferred
  • Encourages students to be global citizens linguistically and culturally. Aims to develop their comprehension and speaking skills, and to develop ease and confidence in reading and writing skills. Introduces them to the joy of learning a language.
  • Possesses the ability to engage students and to build rapport 
  • Possesses effective written and verbal communication skills with students, colleagues, and parents
  • Demonstrates sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community members with a continuous focus on healthy relationship- building 
  • Demonstrates an understanding of teaching in a faith-based environment where developing the heart is as important as developing the mind
  • Knowledgeable and competent in delivering content to students with diverse learning styles
  • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Has a working knowledge of Google Suite
