Freshman Admission FAQs
The first step for all prospective students is to create an online admissions portal so our staff can personalize your ND experience. Creating a profile is simple, does not require a payment or commitment, and is your first step to begin the admission application process. If you have questions about how to apply, please contact the admission team at [email protected].
Is the entrance exam (HSPT) required for admission to Notre Dame?
Notre Dame does not require the Entrance Exam (also known as the HSPT) for admission. Each application is reviewed holistically by our admission committee, and our decisions are based on a thorough review of the student's admission application, academic record, standardized test scores and recommendations.
Applications are continued to be reviewed and accepted on a rolling basis, following the November 15 Early Action deadline. Rolling Admission decisions are sent biweekly, beginning the week of January 6, 2025.
Fall Open House will be on Sunday, October 20 (10am - 12pm). To learn more about Open House and other on campus events and to register, click here.
Notre Dame offers two bus routes and an optional carpool network to help facilitate transportation for families. Bussing is also provided for West Haven residents through the city of West Haven. To learn more about the bus routes and carpool network, click here.

We will admit female transfer students into the sophomore class (Class of 2028) in the Fall of 2025, and female transfer students into the Classes of 2028 and 2029 in the Fall of 2026.
Notre Dame welcomes transfer inquiries for 9th, 10th, and 11th grades. Requests for a student to transfer for senior year are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and require consultation with the Admissions Office.
Transfer applicants are reviewed by the Admissions Committee, in conjunction with the Director of School and College Counseling and the Vice-President of Student Success. During the transfer application review process, the committee evaluates a student’s credits and maps out the appropriate curriculum sequence and course placement. Transfer students will not repeat courses that have already been completed.
Yes, it is required that all transfer students do an interview as the last step to complete the admissions process and finalize the admission decision. The interview will be scheduled once the student’s admission application and all supporting documents have been received and will be done in conjunction with a Knight for a Day Shadow visit. Please contact the Admissions Office at [email protected] to schedule an appointment and visit.
Financial Aid FAQs
The Notre Dame High School Financial Aid Committee requires all families to complete a FACTS application to be considered for financial assistance. FACTS determines the potential dollar amount that a family can contribute based on a calculation of family income and expenses.
Notre Dame awarded over $2 million in tuition assistance for the 2024-2025 academic year for families with demonstrated financial need. The financial aid committee considers each family’s individual circumstances and tailors the best possible plan to help make a Notre Dame education affordable.
The priority deadline for financial aid consideration is November 15, 2024. The FACTS application will be available beginning on October 1, 2024. Families are strongly encouraged to complete the application by the November 15 deadline.
Families are required to apply for financial aid every year by completing the FACTS application. However, the financial aid package is only subject to change if there is a significant change in family circumstances from the prior year.
- One full tuition payment (due May 1, 2025)
- Two half tuition payments (due May 1, 2025 and November 1, 2025)
- Ten monthly payments (due May 1, 2025 through February 1, 2026)
Families who complete the financial aid application and admission application by the November 15, 2024 Early Action deadline will receive their financial aid awards with their admission decisions the week of December 20, 2024.
Notre Dame values academic and personal achievement and recognizes students for their performance and accomplishments. Merit scholarships are awarded to incoming students as part of their total financial aid package. In order to be considered for a merit scholarship, you must file your admission application and scholarship application by the Early Action Deadline of November 15. Scholarship awards range from $500 to $5,000 a year, and are renewed annually, provided the student remains in good academic and disciplinary standing. If you have questions about the Merit Scholarship Application, please email the Admission Team at [email protected].
co-education FAQs
Notre Dame High School announced in April that it will begin admitting young women in the Fall of 2025. This decision was the result of a careful study and analysis by the Board of Directors and the Strategic Planning Committee and in alignment with the Holy Cross mission and vision for education. The congregation of the Holy Cross has 22 schools operating in the United States and currently, 19 of them are co-educational institutions, including the most recent changes in Flushing, New York, and Notre Dame West Haven. The Board unanimously agreed that the decision to become a co-ed institution is in the best interest of Notre Dame High School, as well as our current and future students who would benefit from Notre Dame’s Signature Programs, including:
- The International Baccalaureate Program;
- Engineering;
- Sports, Exercise and Health Science;
- Notre Dame Experiential Learning (NDXL)
These programs offer unique and distinctive educational opportunities - the ND advantage - that will strongly benefit all students. The opportunities to engage in the arts, service, and civic engagement rooted in the Holy Cross values, will also continue to be the hallmark of a Notre Dame experience. And of course, we will expand our athletic teams and programs and establish the same success with our women’s sports teams as we have with our men’s teams.
What makes Notre Dame High School a great place to learn and grow will not change. As Fr. Basil Moreau stated:
“How we educate the minds will change with the times, how we educate the heart is and will remain timeless."
We will continue to be a place that inspires in all students the Character to Lead, Compassion to Serve and Confidence to Excel. We look forward to welcoming all prospective students to campus this fall for a tour, student visit, and open house program. Click here to learn more about the visit opportunities available. For more information on Notre Dame’s future as a co-educational school, please see the Frequently Asked Questions below.
We will begin enrolling women in September of 2025. We are welcoming Freshman and Sophomores (9th and 10th graders) to the pioneer class. Eighth and Ninth graders can begin the application process now. Click here to start your ND journey and begin the admissions process! If you have any questions about admissions please contact the admissions office at [email protected].
Notre Dame will continue our culture of ‘excellence in athletics’ in the first year of co-education (2025-2026 academic year). Be a part of history as we add women’s sports to our award winning roster of athletics. In the Fall of 2025 we anticipate offering the women’s sports listed below. Team sports will be added beginning in the Fall of 2026.
Fall: Cross Country, Swimming, Crew, Fencing
Winter: Track, Wrestling, Fencing, Cheerleading
Spring: Indoor Track, Golf, Tennis
Year 1 Possible Team Sports: Volleyball, Basketball, Ice Hockey, Lacrosse (these team sports will be offered during Year 1, based on student participation/ interest. There will also be opportunity for these sports to be co-ops).
If you are interested in athletics, we encourage you to contact Ms. Caroline Burns (Vice President for Enrollment), [email protected], and Mr. Jason Shea (Athletic Director), [email protected] so we can get to know you and address your specific questions!
Yes. We are completing renovations that will include additional women's bathrooms, and a women's locker room. All renovations will be completed before women enroll in Fall 2025.
We want our women students to be comfortable and professional-looking. This is the approach we use for our young men’s appearance code. Neat, clean and professional. Tops will include a Collared Polo, Oxford Button Down and Uniform Approved Spirit Wear (ND quarter zip). Bottoms will include skort and pant options. The uniform will be finalized prior to 2025.
We are committed to ensuring that our class sizes and student-to-faculty ratios continue at a level that will allow us to provide the best academic experience possible for our students. We will add faculty/class sections as necessary to ensure the best experience possible.
This is an opportunity for us to expand our mission by offering a Notre Dame education to both male and female students. The core values that define a Notre Dame education - developing in young people the Character to Lead, Compassion to Serve, and Confidence to Excel - will not change.
Since we will be adding women by grade, we expect it will take several years before the population of men and women is balanced.
Absolutely. All our athletic teams will be known as the Green Knights.
