Acknowledgment Gifts Recognize Accomplishments and Commitment

George McWeeney, Jr. '63

George McWeeney, Jr. '63 knows what it means to recognize accomplishments. After all, for over 50 years, the McWeeney family has been providing businesses, schools, and civic organizations with every type of award and acknowledgment gift that you can imagine. If you are in possession of anything ranging from a Notre Dame pen to a Notre Dame Knights of Honor award, it probably originated with George McWeeney.

George was a two-sport varsity athlete at Notre Dame, football and basketball. He co-captained ND's second State Championship Football Team in 1962. In recognition of the quality of his athleticism and his good sportsmanship on and off the field, he was honored with the prestigious Savitt Award in 1963.

An outstanding and committed alumnus of Notre Dame High School and Cornell University, George is a philanthropically minded individual who values all of the customers he serves through his business. At Notre Dame, he has consistently recognized the commitment that teachers and coaches made to him as a student by means of his generous voluntary and financial support of the school's academic and athletic programs.

"I have great memories of my time at Notre Dame and the many friendships made with my classmates. I am very grateful for the spiritual development and education received at Notre Dame. After 57 years, I still have close friendships with many ND Alums.

George and his wife, Mary, recently reviewed their estate plan and decided to leave a generous bequest to Notre Dame High School in the name of the McWeeney Family. They have five grown children, Brendan, Matthew, Shannon, Allison, and Megan, and seven grandchildren.

" I am very grateful for my ND experience and participation in class reunions, fundraising and, the Shepherds program. I can think of no better way to show my gratitude than by leaving a gift that will help keep Notre Dame strong and vibrant in future years."
