Pastor, Board Member, and Loyal Friend of Notre Dame

Father Robert J. Lord

Father Robert J. Lord, a native of Waterbury, CT, was ordained to the priesthood in 1960 and spent almost half of his ministerial life in the Greater New Haven Area.  Father Lord passed away on December 30, 2017, after a long and distinguished career of service to the Catholic Church in parochial and educational ministry.   Assignments in North Branford, East Haven, Milford, Hamden, and Woodbridge, brought him into contact with innumerable Notre Dame High School alumni and families. Twelve years of his ministry were spent at Central Connecticut State University as Campus Minister.  During his tenure at CCSU, he was elected as chairman of the National Catholic Campus Ministry Association.

As a priest and pastor, Father Bob knew the meaning of giving of one’s time, talent, and treasure.   And he practiced what he preached.  He was an individual who was always generous with his time even though he had a full schedule of activities at his ministry.  Notre Dame was fortunate to have the benefit of his talent, wisdom, and guidance when he served on the school’s Board of Directors for six years in the late 1970s and early 1980s. In his later years, Father Bob generously embraced numerous philanthropic pursuits, setting up multiple educational scholarships and trusts.   Notre Dame was one of the beneficiaries of his generosity. At the end of his tenure on the Board of Directors, he funded the Reverend Robert J. Lord Award and notified ND that he also included the school in his estate plan.

Notre Dame High School is grateful for the contributions Father Robert Lord made to our school, and we are pleased to be able to honor his commitment of time, talent, and treasure through an annual financial aid award in his name.
