Biography

Don Martone ‘87 paid his dues for 12 years as Notre Dame’s assistant coach before taking over as head coach for the 2015 season. In his second year, he guided Notre Dame to the 2016 Class L state championship with a thrilling come-from-behind 5-2 win over East Lyme. A key member as the starting third baseman on Notre Dame’s first baseball state championship team in 1985, Martone was a tremendous athlete excelling in baseball and football playing for legendary head coach and Athletic Director Tom Marcucci ‘66. An All-Stater in both sports here at Notre Dame, Martone decided to play baseball in college and took his talents to Providence College. Martone had an outstanding career earning all-Big East honors while also twice being named to the All-New England team that played its annual All-Star game at Fenway Park following the collegiate season.
